Veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s long-awaited biography ‘Substance and Shadow’, authored by Uday Tara Nayar who is also a close family friend of the Bollywood iconic actor, was earlier set to release on Kumar’s 91st birthday in December last year, but will be now unveiled on June 9 in the presence of the thespian’s wife Saira Banu as well as Bollywood stars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan.
.Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar may also be present to grace the occasion.
Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan are going to launch the much awaited biography of legendary Indian film actor also known as Tragedy King (Dilip Kumar), ‘Substance and Shadow’ in the presence of Mr. Dilip Kumar, thespian’s wife Saira Banu Khan, Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar and writer Uday Tara Nayar.
The veteran actor was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan but adopted the screen name of Dilip Kumar. He debuted as an actor in the film Jwar Bhata in 1944, spanning over six decades of his career, the actor gave big hits like ‘Madhumati, ‘Devdas’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Ganga Jamuna’, ‘Ram Aur Shyam, ‘Karma’ and others. He was last seen in film ‘Qila’ in 1998.
The Government of India honoured Kumar with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema.
Kumar opens up about his interactions and relationships with a wide variety of people not only from his family and the film but also from other walks of life, including politicians. In his autobiography narrates his bitter break up with actress Madhubala and also his wedding to was 22 years his junior actress Saira Banu.
Kumar also narrates how he had to learn everything from scratch and how he himself and style. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar’s long-awaited biography ‘Substance and Shadow’, published by Hay House India the book is set for launch on June 9, according to Penguin India which is marketing and selling the book.
It took Ms Nayar two years of writing after ten years of recording the actor’s conversations.
