Parineeti was reacting to media reports suggesting that she had asked YRF — the producers of Daawat-e-Ishq — to delay the release so she could avoid getting into the ring with a direct contest with cousin Priyanka Chopra.
“She is my sister and I love her. I have no plans to fight with her or compete with her. She is a senior actress and a lot ahead of me, I can never compete with her,” Parineeti was quoted as saying by NDTV.
While Priyanka is yet to react to the reports, Parineeti’s hasty response to the reports hints at the pressure she was under to avoid a face-off with Priyanka, who incidentally was instrumental in launching Parineeti in Bollywood.
Originally slated for a September 5 release YRF delayed Daawat-e-Ishq by a fortnight to an especially tough week commencing September 19. Priyanka’s biopic on the life of boxing ace Mary Kom releases on September 5.
The uncharacteristic delay on part of YRF immediately triggered rumours which suggested that Parineeti was instrumental in having the release deferred as she wished to avoid a direct contest with Priyanka at the box office.
