Biography : Rani Mukerji is an Indian film actress, born on 21st March 1978 to Krishna Mukherjee & Ram Mukherjee. Her father is a film director & her mother is a playback singer. She has one elder brother Raja Mukherjee who is a film director & producer. She completed her schooling from Maneckji Cooper High School & graduated from SNDT Women's University. Recently, she got married to famous director & producer Aditya Chopra.
Rani began her acting career in 1997 with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat which was a failure at box office. Her next release was Vikram Bhatt's Ghulam opposite Aamir Khan. Same year she was seen in Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai opposite Shahrukh Khan which was a blockbuster & she came into limelight & got noticed. After that, she appeared in two films Mehndi (1998) and Hello Brother (1999). Both movies failed to impress the audience.
In 2000, she was seen in films like Badal, Bichhoo, Hey Ram, Hadh Kar Di Aapne, Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye & Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega. In 2001, she appeared in many films including Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai and Nayak: The Real Hero. All did not do well at box office. In 2002, she did two Yash Raj Films Mujhse Dosti Karoge! & Saathiya. Saathiya did well at box office & her performance was appreciated. In 2003, Rani starred in Aziz Mirza's Chalte Chalte opposite Shahrukh Khan which was a hit. Her next released movies were Chori Chori, Calcutta Mail & LOC Kargil. All failed at the box office.
In 2004 She starred in two films, Kunal Kohli's Hum Tum opposite Saif Ali Khan & won Filmfare Awards for Best Actress & Mani Ratnam's Yuva & won Filmfare Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Same year she did a role in Yash Chopra's Romantic film Veer-Zaara which was a blockbuster. 2004 was the most successful year of her entire career.
In 2005, she starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black where she played the role of a blind and deaf girl. The movie was highly appreciated & her performance was praised. Her next released movies were Bunty Aur Babli, Paheli opposite Shahrukh Khan & Mangal Pandey: The Rising. In 2006, she was seen once again with Shahrukh Khan in Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna which was a huge success. Same year she was seen in Baabul which failed at the box office.
In 2007-2010, she appeared in many films including Ta Ra Rum Pum, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Saawariya, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic & Dil Bole Hadippa!. All failed to impress the audience. In 2011, she starred in crime thriller film No One Killed Jessica. Her performance recieved good reviews by critics. Her next released movies were Aiyyaa, Talaash: The Answer Lies Within & Bombay Talkies. Her upcoming movie is Pradeep Sarkar's action drama Mardaani which is set to release on 22nd August, 2014.
