Veteran Bollywood actress Zohra Sehgal known for her jovial roles in films like Dil Se, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Cheeni Kum and Saawariya passed away in Delhi at the age of 102. Sehgal breathed her last at Max hospital here around 4:30 PM. Born on the April 27, 1912, Zohra is an Indian actor and dancer. Born Sahibzadi Zohra Begum Mumtaz-ullah Khan in a traditional Muslim family in Sahranpur, Uttar Pradesh, she was sent to Lahore to pursue her higher education.
Apart from her lively roles in several Bollywood films, she was also a part of Hollywood projects like Bend it like Beckham. Early in her career, Sehgal worked as a choreographer in several Dev Anand films like CID, Nau Do Gyarah, Baazi, Neecha Nagar and Dev Anand in Goa.
“My condolences on the sad demise of the veteran actress Zohra Sehgal. Her legendary contribution in the field of art & cinema will live on,” Javadekar tweeted.
Television producer Siddharth Basu tweeted,” Forever young at heart & in spirit even at 102, the irrepressibly endearing Zohra Sehgal finally belongs to the ages. May she rest in peace.”
Offering his condolences, megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted,”Zohra Sehgal passes away at 102 yrs ..what a journey and what an immensely loveable co star ! Prayers for her blessed soul !!”
